Extreme Championship Wrestling was at no time the most successful wrestling promotion in the world, but it certainly has the argument for being one of the most popular. In fact, the rabid fans of ECW continue to chant the promotion's name despite it being out of business since 2001. Many of the biggest wrestlers that the world has ever seen spent time in ECW, including Steve Austin, Rob Van Dam and Eddie Guerrero.
However, none of these big-name wrestlers held the ECW World Heavyweight Championship during their stint, which was reserved for wrestlers who spent more time in the promotion. Wrestlers like Sabu and Shane Douglas were multi-time ECW Champions, and helped carry the promotion. However, there are many more names who won the ECW Championship who leave much more of a question mark in the history books.
10. Jimmy Snuka
Many fans remember Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka as one of WWE's earliest high-flying wrestlers, but following his stints in WWE he toiled around the independent circuit like many other former WWE wrestlers. Snuka wound up becoming the first Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW) Champion, as well as the first two-time champion for the company, even if WWE does not recognize the lineage.
9. Tommy Dreamer
As the proclaimed "heart and soul of ECW", Tommy Dreamer is looked at someone who continues to embody the spirit of ECW despite it closing almost 20 years ago.
However, Dreamer himself has stated that he never wanted to win the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, but he was backed into a corner when he won it in 2000 due to the Mike Awesome controversy. However, he can take some solace in the fact that he lost it mere minutes after winning it.
